Microsoft SBS & Windows SQL 2000 Offer Collaboration & Sharing and Core Business Application Support in a Linux Environment

SKA Consulting was initially looking for collaboration and sharing features from a Linux product, but also needed MS SQL Server to support a new core business accounting application. After speaking with ERGOS, SKA saw that Microsoft SBS Premium provided the desired collaboration and sharing features and allowed them to keep Windows for Active Directory. Instead of going straight Linux in their environment, they wanted to keep Microsoft for its directory services (Active Directory) for a single set of user accounts across multiple devices. They wanted an IT vendor that would perform the Windows Server installation/upgrade and to continue to assist them on the Microsoft Windows side where needed.
Using SAMBA, a software suite that connects Open Source computing with Windows-based software, SKA provided the Linux integration while ERGOS installed a new SBS/Exchange/SQL Server. ERGOS deployed Microsoft Exchange with Microsoft Small Business Server Premium which comes with Microsoft Windows SQL for running their new core business accounting application. To stabilize and secure the network infrastructure, ERGOS added a layer of protection against viruses, spyware, and malware by setting up spam and virus filtering with Spam Soap. To protect their data, ERGOS installed a robust tape backup solution with Symantec Backup Exec.
SKA got all of the collaboration and sharing benefits of Exchange and can implement team projects faster with their new Microsoft SQL database. They can work remotely with the Remote Web Workplace feature of SBS and Outlook Web Access. Their productivity has been improved and they have peace of mind knowing that their network and data are protected and secure.
